The Four Pillars

Every patient fits one of four pathways

Pillar 01 · Personalised & Robotic Surgery

Want surgery designed for your anatomy, not the average?

Joint-preserving partial replacement where suitable, personalised total replacement with kinematic alignment and robotic precision, and direct anterior hip surgery — matched to your joint, not a standard mould.

Pillar 02 · Second Opinion

Had a replacement that still doesn’t feel right?

When a replacement hasn’t worked out there is often a specific reason — and a specific solution. An independent review: examination, imaging reviewed, and a written summary of your options.

Pillar 03 · Individual Assessment

Been told you’re too young, too heavy, or to just wait?

Dr Yas reviews each patient case by case and recommends the operation that fits the joint — not the other way around. Higher-BMI patients considered on their individual merits, not declined on weight alone.

A different starting question

“The standard operation” isn’t always the right one

Many patients have been told that a particular operation is the standard option for them. Dr Yas approaches it differently.

You’ve been told you need a total replacement and wonder if there’s a smaller option.
You’ve been turned away because of your weight, without a full assessment.
You’re younger or active and want to keep as much of your own joint as possible.
You want an honest view of whether surgery is the right step at all.

Dr Yas considers current BMI, comorbidities, prior surgery, current pain and function, the pattern of joint disease on imaging, and the realistic outcome of each option — together, rather than in isolation.

How your knee is assessed

Three working areas — and the right answer for yours

The knee is made up of three working areas — the inside, the outside, and the section behind the kneecap.

Joint-preserving partial

Where arthritis is limited to one or two areas and the ligaments are intact, Dr Yas offers partial or bicompartmental replacement.

Personalised total

Where arthritis affects all three areas, a total replacement is right — performed with kinematic alignment and robotic-assisted technology.

Honest, gentle advice

Where surgery is not appropriate, Dr Yas will tell you honestly — with practical next steps.

Hip replacement & higher BMI

The direct anterior approach, considered on its merits

For hip replacement, the surgical approach matters. Dr Yas uses the direct anterior approach — a muscle-sparing technique.

•
A factual anatomical advantageThe anterior region generally has less subcutaneous fat, which can simplify access in higher-BMI patients.
•
Assessed, not declinedIt is one of the reasons Dr Yas considers higher-BMI hip replacement on its individual merits.
•
Suited to active patientsThe approach is also well suited to active and athletic patients seeking a fast return to function.

Common questions

Questions patients ask

I’ve been told I need a total replacement. Could I have a smaller operation?
Possibly. Where arthritis is limited to one or two of the three working areas and the ligaments are intact, a partial or bicompartmental replacement may preserve the rest of your own joint.
What is bicompartmental knee replacement?
It replaces two of the three worn areas of the knee while preserving the unaffected third and the ACL. Dr Yas is one of a small number of surgeons in South Australia who perform it.
I’ve been turned away because of my weight. Will I be assessed?
Dr Yas considers higher-BMI joint replacement on its individual merits rather than declining on weight alone.
What is kinematic alignment?
It positions the implant to follow your own natural knee alignment, rather than forcing the joint to a standard mechanical axis.
What if surgery isn’t right for me?
Dr Yas will tell you honestly, with practical next steps for non-surgical management.
Do I need a referral?
A GP referral is recommended and usually required for Medicare rebates, but you’re welcome to enquire first.
